A Romantic First Look at Garden Destination Scotland wedding

Kellie and Danny host a garden destination Scottland wedding! This couple has a romantic history of travel and moving so we loved that they celebrated their wedding at The Dunskey Estate in Portpatrick, Scotland. Continue to read as Kellie shares all about their wedding and as we share all about her Ines Di Santo wedding dress.

Kellie and Danny have a romantic love story of meeting in Spain and then moving to Florida. In Spain, they were teaching English in a school and met one night out. Their love story continued as they moved to Florida and continued teaching in the States. Their wedding was romantic and full of travel. They chose the Dunskey Estate as their wedding venue. They wanted to get married in Belfast but they fell in love with the charming and rural town of Portpatrick. When it was time to find Kellie’s wedding dress, Tali Gallo was the perfect person for Kellie to work with. Kellie said ‘yes’ to the ‘Moment’ dress by Ines by Ines Di Santo. ‘Moment’ features a sheer bodice with lace, beaded applique, and soft flowing chiffon skirt. This dress was perfect for their stunning oceanside wedding photos in Scottland. Kellie completed her bridal look with a veil by Girl and a Serious Dream and jewelry by Maria Elena Headpieces. Her cathedral veil was the perfect final touch to her destination wedding dress.

Congratulations, Kellie + Danny!

How did you & your partner meet? : Danny and I met while we were teaching English in Madrid, Spain. We had a lot of mutual friends from work that got together often, so we ran into each other a lot. Coincidentally, we have a picture of the day we first met. We were out for a friend's birthday and we snapped a group photo. It's fun to look back to see us together before we even knew each other!

Where was your first date? : We both lived in the same neighborhood (Retiro, Madrid) which had a lot of tapas bars. We met up at one nearby and hopped around to different bars. We got cañas (which is just a small serving of beer) and whatever tapas were served with them and talked all night.

How did your partner propose? : After living in Madrid, Danny and I moved back to Orlando together. One summer, we took a trip back to Madrid to revisit all of our old favorite spots. Our favorite place was in Retiro Park where we used to go on picnics. On the first day of our trip, we went back to the same spot we used to go to with all of our favorite picnic items. While we were there, Danny got out a list he had written of his top ten favorite memories with me. His number one memory was "Coming back to Spain after two years and asking you to marry me". He pulled out the ring when I read number one.

What was your dress shopping experience like? : My dress shopping experience was the absolute highlight of the planning process! I don't typically feel comfortable shopping for myself, so I was worried about shopping for a dress. I had visited several boutiques before I found The Bridal Finery and was feeling really disappointed in what I was seeing. When I first came to The Bridal Finery, Tali spent a lot of time with me simply asking questions to understand what I was looking for. I honestly think she understood what I wanted more than I did! She helped me find exactly what I wanted in a dress and made me feel comfortable. I loved being able to work with everyone at the store throughout my engagement to continue finding all the pieces I needed for my wedding day.

What did you wish you knew before you started wedding planning?: I wish I had known that a lot of the details fall into place closer to the wedding date. I tried to plan everything out early, but some things just had to wait and that was okay! It all ended up being perfect.

Where was your wedding? What did you decide on that space?: Our wedding was in Portpatrick, Scotland, which is a small, rural town on the southwestern coast of Scotland. It was really important to us to get married in Europe since traveling means so much to us. We had originally looked at eloping in Belfast, Northern Ireland since Danny's family is from there. Through our search in that area, we found the Dunskey Estate. It was so intimate and unique that we knew it was the perfect place for us.

What's your favorite memory from your event? : We really wanted our guests to enjoy themselves and have a unique experience and it was great to see all the people we love in the same place. Not only was it a special trip for Danny and I, but it was for all of our guests as well. For some, it was their first time traveling abroad, others just loved being back, and Danny's grandmother even got to go back to the country she's from. My favorite memory was Danny and I being able to share our love of travel with all of our favorite people.

What is a 'must have' for brides on wedding day?: Whatever makes you feel comfortable! At the end of the day, the celebration is about you and your spouse, so you'll want to be comfortable and feel like yourself - for me, this meant wearing flats, not heels! :)

How would you describe the overall feel of your event? : So incredibly fun! We booked the estate for three days, so we had a lot of fun activities planned throughout the weekend. We got to go to the beach on the estate grounds, explore gardens, hike to a nearby ruined castle, enjoy whiskey tastings and cheese pairings, fireworks, bbqs, etc. Everyone had an absolute blast and we didn't want to leave!

What wedding planning advice do you have for other brides? : My advice to other brides is to get exactly what you want. There are endless possibilities and all the planning will be worth the memories you make!

Where was your honeymoon? : We stayed in Europe for a month after our wedding and traveled all around Scotland and Ireland.
