How did you & Jason meet?
We actually first met on the dating app Tinder when we were both living in Oakland, CA (only a mile away from each other!).
Where was your first date?
Our first date started at a natural wine bar called Ordinaire, but we quickly decided to turn it into a bar crawl so we could check out each bar/restaurant along Grand Avenue—once we reached The Alley, a quirky piano bar, we stayed until it closed (this is also where we had our first kiss).
How did Jason propose?
On Christmas Eve of 2019, my sister suggested we play some games, like Christmas-themed trivia and charades. We played several rounds of charades before he did his secret signal to my family and made me guess the words, "Will you marry me?" It took me a while to understand what was happening, but eventually he got down on one knee and pulled out the most beautiful ring and it was perfect.
What was your wedding dress shopping experience like?
Before we postponed our wedding (twice), I made an appointment at The Bridal Finery early on in the pandemic because I was so impressed with their safety measures and gorgeous dress selections. My mom and sisters came with me (we all wore masks) and it only took trying on three other dresses before we all knew I had found the one. Roberta poured us champagne, handed me a beautiful bouquet, we cried happy tears, and it was perfect.
What bridal accessory was your favorite?
I wore rainbow bejeweled heels because my new last name is Rainbow.
What do you love most about your wedding venue?
We haven't had a chance to really enjoy our actual venue yet since we postponed all the way to November 2021, but we took these beautiful photos in St. Augustine FL because we decided to go ahead and start our family, and I wanted to capture this perfect dress before my belly grows too big ;)
What is one thing you wish you knew before you started wedding planning?
There was nothing that could've prepared me for what 2020 would bring, so I guess if I could go back to my engagement at the end of 2019, I would say—wait to book anything until the world is vaccinated.
How would you describe the overall feel of your wedding portraits?
Unconventional! We didn't expect to have to postpone our actual celebration so many times, but I'm always drawn to muted rainbows and 70s vibes. We are excited for the vision to finally come together in November.
What wedding planning advice do you have for other brides?
Make sure your vendors are flexible with postponements ;)
Where will your honeymoon be?
We would love to honeymoon in Thailand when it's safe to travel again.
What are you enjoying most about newlywed life?
We have loved growing our family—first we got a puppy, then four baby chicks, and now we're expecting our first baby in October.
