The Best Wedding Day Getting Ready Robes
By Bridal Stylist Shayna Goldman Wacker
The best day of your life has taken you months to plan and make sure you look and feel like the most beautiful version of yourself is a very important part of ensuring that happens. Over the last several years we have seen the ‘getting ready’ portion of the wedding day become a significant moment for brides with beautiful spa-like setups, champagne with personalized flutes to sip from, and beautiful outfits to wear as you all get glam with makeup and hair. With candid photo ops and pre gown portraits, choosing the perfect ensemble for you and your bridesmaids is an important piece of the puzzle! What you wear before slipping into your wedding dress should feel just as special and having your bridesmaids in something beautiful that complements your outfit is like the icing on the wedding cake!
Wedding Robes and Bridal Robes
One of the go-to looks I think of when someone asks for ideas on what to wear during their wedding day primping is a bridal robe. What I love about a robe is they are comfortable, functional when getting ready, but also depending on what you pair them with you can create totally different looks to wear after the wedding day. One of our favorite brands that specialize in getting ready pieces is Girl & A Serious Dream. Created by designer Anita here in Florida, she has taken the bridal party robe to a whole other level with her attention to detail and design choices. Each piece in her collection is handmade with beautiful silk, lace, and Pima cotton that she has specially brought over from both France and Italy two fabric capitals in the world. The bridal party robes are handcrafted with subtle details that capture the body so beautifully and are nothing but luxurious on the skin. Celebrities like Jenna Dewan have chosen to wear her pieces for their most important life moments. Her maternity shoot went viral where she is standing beautifully in the all lace full-length Swan Queen robe.
So today I am going to share my favorite bridal robes from the Girl and a Serious Dream collection and the pieces I love to pair them with to create looks that are sure to stun on your wedding day. Along with the bridal ensemble, I am sharing my favorite coordinating bridesmaid robes with each so see how to drape your bridal party in beautiful outfits as well! I’m going to give you looks based on different wedding/ bridal style by giving you a classic, romantic, bold, and so on look to cover all the bases. Let’s get these beautiful looks going!
Swan Queen Lace Robe | Girl and a Serious Dream
Going classic you can’t go wrong with. It is a staple wedding style that will be a constant no matter what year we are in. When I think of a classic bride I think white roses, a country club setting, and spring. For the girl who is going for that timeless vision, I pull one of my favorite signature bridal robe from the collection called The Swan Queen. This knee-length kimono sleeve lace robe lined with silk is both feminine and elegant with scalloped edges and satin sash. The handmade French Chantilly lace design will bring out your bridal glow come wedding day and with the kimono sleeve detail, you still get a modern silhouette with classic influence. This lace robe in the two-tone shade of ivory lined in blush pink silk is my favorite color choice for the bride keeping it soft and subtle with the hint of blush. The Swan Queen is no doubt going to give you the classic bridal moment you deserve. It is no wonder Olympic Gold medalist Tara Lipinski chose to wear this bridal robe while getting pampered before her southern style nuptials in Charleston, South Carolina. Her photos in the robe speak for themselves with her endless smile beaming as she laughs with her bridesmaids.

To make sure your bridal party adds even more beauty when standing next to you, styling them in the watercolor dreams print robe is the way to go. This bridesmaid robe is handmade with cotton is design with comfort and luxury on their skin. I love the idea of having them in the floral print to add another subtle detail that compliments the lace on the bridal robe and still looks cohesive. If you look at both robes you’ll see they have the same kimono sleeve, similar overall body design, and both have a blush undertone giving you matching elements in a subtle way that tie them together. This pairing will give you the picture-perfect moment with your bridal party for your classic style wedding!
A romantic bridal look is always fun to work with and Girl & A Serious Dream conquers this genre with the collection. Knowing that, I realized just picking one favorite look was a little challenging so I decided to give you two! I’m going to share my favorite ‘sweet romantic’ look and a favorite ‘sexy romantic’ because I also realize not everyone has the same idea for what romantic looks like.
| Wedding Robes - Sweet and Romantic |
Starting off with the sweet romantic I envision a bride with a feminine personal style and her wedding is blush peonies at a historic mansion with monogrammed napkins delicately placed on top of gold gilded china pieces. For this bride the Grace silk and lace winged robe made in blush pink with gold detail is perfect. This stunning bridal robe has a wide-winged kimono sleeve made of gold French lace that cascades down to your hips creating a beautifully feminine silhouette. The blush pink silk gives it a touch of sweetness that says ‘blushing bride’ in more ways than one and the way this robe drapes on the body just spills romantic. You can also transform into a sexy romantic moment by pairing lace undergarments such as the Rosa scalloped lace bra and panties giving you another ensemble with this robe for your honeymoon! For the bridal party, the Samantha silk kimono robe in the gold or the champagne shade will look stunning next to you bringing out the gold detail in your robe without looking too matched. The blush and gold tones together give you all the sweetness of romance and the beauty of a flawless wedding day memory.

| Wedding Robes - Sexy and Romantic |
Now when I say a ‘sexy romantic’ bridal look it is more about channeling the feeling rather than the literal sense. You can be sexy in a subtle and romantic way by focusing on the details of your look. For this bride, I think of deep reds, velvet and plush furnishings, and candles in gold vases lit around the entire room of the wedding ceremony and reception. You want to enhance the vibe that your wedding style is and be a little sexy, but still bridal. For this, I bring in the Anita midi kimono sleeve lace robe in Ivory. This bridal robe is both sexy and romantic in the most elegant way. The ‘Anita’ bridal robe is made of Chantilly lace that is shaped into a body-flattering dress like silhouette falling just passed your knees with scalloped edges giving it a soft finish. With this robe, it is all about the details. You have kimono style flutter sleeves that give you floating romance as you pose for those last moments as a single girl on your wedding day and I love the subtle sexiness in the neckline with the flirty eyelash trim. The fitted waistline has a double hook and eye closure so it sits perfectly on the body. To enhance your overall look you have options in how sexy you want to be in this robe which is another reason why I love this piece. Slip the dreamy day silk playsuit in blush pink under this and you have a flirty finish to the ensemble or be a little bolder by pairing just the French lace shorties underneath. Either way, you choose to go would achieve the style effortlessly and pack this baby in the honeymoon suitcase for another model moment in this beautiful design. Giving your bridal party the right robe to coordinate your sexy style and still making sure they feel beautiful and comfortable is definitely an important detail to achieving those lasting memories together on your wedding day. I have two different options to style your bridesmaids that will not disappoint. If you are choosing to go for the flirtier version of sexy romance with the playsuit under Anita I love the Samantha silk bridesmaid robe in the garnet red playing up the romantic vibe with the lush color shade and still feeling sexy in the silk. It is a great style to keep a sexy look and cater to those who may not want to show off as much skin. Now if you decided you're going for it with just some lace panties and you have bridesmaids that are happy to show a little more skin, I love the Swan Queen black lace kimono robe for a bolder bridesmaid. Give them the dreamy day playsuit in blush pink underneath to match yours and y.ou have a sexy squad of lace perfection!

| Getting Ready Robe - Destination Wedding |
My next getting ready look is going to be for those who have chosen to take their family and friends on an adventure with a destination wedding! Couples who decide to say ‘I do’ with a weekend getaway to somewhere exotic or maybe even a place that has special meaning to you both is always such a fun event to be a part of. They are all different and unique but no doubt always beautiful and what you and your bridal party wear to prep for your dream wedding should be too! So for the destination bride, I envision the wedding somewhere exotic, outdoors in a historic type of venue or area, and a backdrop of scenery that is breathtaking. I like to style this look with the mindset that the bride is adventurous but also elegant and simple. The bridal robe I love for your wedding day is the Amalfi hooded tulle and French lace kimono sleeve robe in Ivory. This piece was one of the first styles I personally gravitated towards when I was introduced to the Girl & A Serious Dream collection because I love the laid back chic vibe I feel from it. The soft Italian tulle on the body is light and airy with the detailed French lace trim on the hood, sleeves, and bottom creating an effortless elegance. The relaxed body style with the kimono sleeves and hood give this lace robe just enough drama to fit that adventurous bride so you feel like an exotic queen in your getting ready ensemble. The Amalfi robe is also a very versatile piece making it easy to put your own personal style stamp on it based on what you choose to wear underneath. A few pieces I love pairing with Amalfi are the Lillie silk and lace wrap slip in Ivory for a classic touch or to add a little more playfulness with the Magnolia French lace playsuit in pale pink as well! With the beauty of Amalfi you can also pair a simple bias-cut slip underneath to showcase the details of the lace robe itself, but no matter what you choose you will be stunning in Amalfi on your wedding day and many times after that. Keep your bridesmaid’s ensemble simple and stunning in the Pima cotton watercolor dreams floral kimono robe so you all are comfortably chic in your getting ready bridal party looks!
There are so many more styles I could cover with the amazing variety Girl & A Serious Dream offers for getting ready robes and complimenting pieces, but I think I have covered the big ones at this point. I know that it is important to every bride and to us as bridal stylists that you feel like the best version of yourself on your wedding day and I think that what you choose to get ready in plays a big role in that. No matter how big or small lavish or simple your wedding may be feeling beautiful is the ultimate goal. I hope that the looks I shared in this piece have given you some inspiration for your own bridal party attire and I encourage you to check out the website to see what else the collection has to offer. We are fortunate to be able to work with GSD in our boutique and we love styling brides in her amazing designs!
