How did you and your partner meet?: Casey and I met through a dating app- which I have always thought to be stupid. A friend talked me into joining just to have the chance to meet people outside of my circle. Josie will be officiating our wedding since it is her fault we met.
How did your partner propose?: I was in the middle of baking a cake for a client- sweatpants, messy bun, baggy tee. He was sitting at the table watching me and grabbed my hand as I was walking by and asked me to marry him. Not exactly the most glamorous setup, but it was just us and it was perfect.
What was your wedding dress shopping experience like?: Amazing! I love Tali and The Bridal Finery. I was set on having a non-traditional dress. I wanted it to be black. We happened to walk into a different bridal store one day because we happened to be in the area. I told the hostess what I was looking for and I already hated being in the store because of the look on her face. She showed me the only option they had online and while it was pretty it wasn't what I wanted so we left. I had reached out to a few different smaller bridal shops and Tali responded to me almost immediately. Black dresses aren't really an item you find in stock all over the place- but Tali had brought different materials and painstakingly pinned it all to me so I could have an idea of what a custom dress would look like. Every time I'm in the shop, she always takes the time to make sure everything is perfect, and even though I'm sure it is a horrible task to pin and re-pin all those items, she never makes me feel like I'm inconveniencing her. My friends have loved going with me because of how intimate and special each visit is. It is the best. I didn't want to spend as mush as I am on my dress, but I have zero regrets and would do it all over again because it has been so great. From the first visit to the last one I had in January.
What are you most excited about for your wedding?: Aside from getting to wear my dress (which I plan to live in after the wedding) and marrying Casey, I am most excited for my mom to be here. I have been in Florida for over 20 years and this will be the first time my mom comes here to visit me. I've always gone to her- so this is a really big deal.
Favorite/and least favorite part of planning a wedding?: My favorite part is how easy it has been. You always hear about how stressful things are and some people turn into bridezillas... but Casey and I have been very fortunate to find vendors that are amazing and have not been even slightly pushy and demanding. Everyone has been so great- and really excited about the theme of our wedding (Dia de Los Muertos). My least favorite part was deciding on a vendor to do our cake. Casey is an artist and he was very adamant about our cake needing to be just right. He didn't want something that looked like I could have done myself at home. And since we are very non-traditional, it was hard to find a place that showcased their non-traditional cakes. And while it was a challenge to find the right place, it wasn't a horrible experience.
Advice for other brides: If you are going to a wedding convention- make yourself an email that is only used for your wedding items. I am so thankful that I did that because the amount of spam emails that I get from places I didn't sign up at is insane. Insane. I cannot stress that enough. Also, figure out what YOU want as a couple for your wedding. Not what anyone else wants. If you are spending the money on a day to celebrate you- nobody else's input matters one bit.
