The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Dress Shopping in Orlando

Wedding Dress Shopping in Orlando

Orlando may have crossed your mind for theme park hopping, outlet shopping, or a visit to one of our many beautiful neighborhoods. What you may not know about The City Beautiful is that this not-so-small town boasts of many beautiful bridal boutiques. However, getting started on your journey to that first bridal appointment can be a bit overwhelming. With so many choices and questions to be answered, we have made the ultimate guide to wedding dress shopping in Orlando.

How should I decide which Orlando shop to visit?

The best way to start is by looking at reviews on The Knot, Wedding Wire, or Google. Another great way to learn about bridal shops is by word of mouth. If you went to a friend's wedding and loved her style, ask her for a recommendation. Ultimately, you have to go with a shop that carries your size, and is within your price range, but follow the stores you are thinking about shopping on social media. Do a little research and watch their stories. See if their brand fits your style. You want to feel like you and your stylist are going to connect on a personal level during your appointment. This is a surefire way to ensure your appointment is comfortable for you and your guests.

So, when should I start shopping for my wedding dress?

I’ll start by saying this: It is never too early to shop for your wedding dress! When you are ready, you know you are ready. Now, in terms of timelines, it is considered standard to need anywhere from six to nine months to receive a special order wedding dress. Some stores offer sample sale or off-the-rack options, where you can have your dress right away. The most ideal scenario is shopping one year out from your wedding to give ample time. Sometimes, brides find it best to shop for their gown after their venue has been selected so they can have an idea of the setting their dress will be photographed in.

I live outside of Orlando, where should I stay?

If you are coming to Orlando, I recommend staying in one of our charming neighborhoods. In Winter Park, the Alfond Inn is an obvious choice. With their unique boutique hotel experience and delicious eats at Hamilton’s Kitchen, you are certain to have a refreshing stay. Another wonderful option located near the airport is the Lake Nona Wave Hotel. In Orlando’s modern Lake Nona, The Wave embodies art with unique restaurants, a sculpture garden, and their colorful pool cabanas

I want to have brunch with my friends before or after to celebrate. Where should I go?

If there’s one thing I know, O-town is a brunch town. We are in no way short of a great spot to grab mimosas with your besties before or after your bridal appointment! If you are a lover of great service and seafood, Reel Fish in Winter Park is always a winner; they serve brunch Saturdays and Sundays. Another great spot near downtown is Maxine’s on Shine, serving brunch Friday-Sunday.

Who should I bring with me to my appointment?

Deciding who to bring with you wedding dress shopping is such a personal decision, and there is not one right answer. The truth is that you have to assemble your dream team. This can be a combination of people from mom, to bridesmaids, sisters, even coworkers can be dream team status. Everyone’s dress dream team looks a little different; that’s going to be the group of people that knows your personality, your personal style, and most importantly, supports you in making decisions that make YOU happy. When considering how many people you want to bring, 3-4 is a good number to have on your team.

What should I bring with me to my appointment?

There isn’t too much that you need to bring with you to a bridal shop. Your stylist should provide most necessities that you will need during your appointment. However you may want to bring the following with you just to be safe :)

  • Inspiration photos for your dress

  • Photos of your everyday style

  • Nude undergarments

  • Yourself!

  • Your guests!

  • A satisfied appetite - appointments can be up to two hours, depending on the store. Trying on dresses can work up a hunger.

What are some questions to ask my stylist during my appointment?

Being prepared with the right questions is such an important part of the process. Here are the top questions to ask your stylist:

  • Do you have an in-house seamstress or do you refer to a local seamstress?

  • Are alterations included in the price of my wedding dress?

  • What is your payment process? Is there a deposit or is full payment due upon purchase?

  • Can I bring items/heirlooms that I plan on wearing on wedding day?

  • Do you have accessories

  • What is the price range of your dresses?

  • How long is the shipping time on your dresses?

  • Where are your dresses manufactured?

How will I know when I have found “the one”?

You will truly know you have found the dream dress when you can picture yourself walking down the aisle in that dress to your fiancé and saying those special words “I do”. Something to consider is if a dress makes you feel like a Bride. Bridal may look different to different people. Some brides prefer the classic look, while others go for romance, or even a dramatic effect on their wedding day. There is truly no wrong answer because it is your day. A savvy stylist will use their expertise to guide you through your appointment and help you through the many silhouettes, shades, and materials to find the perfect gown for you.
